It’s always hard to say goodbye, and Hailee Steinfeld tweeted her thoughts on Wednesday (March 7) about completing filming on her latest movie, Romeo & Juliet and prepared to leave her film ‘family’ behind.
“Bitter sweet day today, I wrapped on my second film #RomeoandJuliet :’) I had such a beautiful experience with an amazing cast & crew. Couldn’t have done it without them”
The 15-year-old actress portrays Juliet in this newest adaption of William Shakespeare‘s classic play, with 19-year-old British actor Douglas Booth playing Romeo. Filming took place in several Italian regions, including Mantua – Hailee tweeted this photo on location:
In spite of an earlier controversy that said the young actress would be appearing nude in the movie, director Carlo Carlei says the scene in question has been revised: “In the original adaptation written by the Oscar-winning screenwriter Julian Fellowes, there was a lovemaking scene that included nudity for the married Romeo and Juliet. This script was written with a 20-year-old actress in mind,” he explained. “As soon as Hailee Steinfeld was cast, all nudity and lovemaking have been excised from the script. It will be romantic and age-appropriate for a 14-year-old.”
