Taylor Swift is getting an award this week and it’s not for music. Michelle Obama will be presenting her with the Big Help Award at the Kids’ Choice Awards – set to air on Saturday.
The 22-year-old singer is being recognized for her philanthropic efforts. MTV News reports Swift used a dress rehearsal of her Speak Now Tour into a fundraiser for victims of the 2011 tornadoes that tore through the Southeast. Other charities she works with are the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the St. Jude Medical Center, Habitat for Humanity and the Red Cross.
Marva Smalls – the Executive Vice President, Public Affairs and Chief of Staff, of the Nickelodeon Group – praised Swift in a statement.
“Taylor’s dedication to helping others has encouraged her fan base to do the same, and this is the very core of what The Big Help is, inspiring others through action. We are honored that First Lady Michelle Obama, a past recipient of The Big Help Award will be presenting this formidable and inspiring artist with this much deserved honor.”
Recent recipients have been Leo DiCaprio and Justin Timberlake.
Taylor Swift also has been showing off her fun side on her Twitter account.
She recently retweeted a photo of herself and gal pal Claire Kislinger playing dress up in frilly and lacy dresses.
Her friend had written: “Oh no….it’s dress up night”
