Demi Lovato posted a photo of herself on Saturday (April 7) without any makeup on. With her head to one side the singer gave a sweet smile.
She Tweeted: “No makeup! Goodnight. xox”
Fortunately the singer has turned her life around after being in treatment for self-harm issues. She recently sat down with MTV for the after-show of her Stay Strong special and admitted she wasn’t a role model at first.
“When I first got into this business and thrown into the spotlight, it was difficult because I was a normal 14-, 15-year-old girl who had a mouth like a sailor. I was so frustrated all the time feeling guilty and shameful. I was partying and definitely not a role model.”
She explained, “Everyone kind of just made me a role model and I hated that. I was partying, I was self-medicating. I was like, why would you want your kids to be like me? I felt like I was living a lie. I was dealing with all this pain emotionally and I felt guilt and shame. I decided to take it out on myself. I harmed myself. It was my way of taking my own shame and my own guilt out on myself.”
Demi mentioned her own role models.
She shared, “I have singers I look up to [including] kelly Clarkston, she is my ultimate idol. Then there is always people who inspire me daily. My sisters and my mom, those people help me get through every single day.”
