The Secret Life of the American Teenager star Shailene Woodley has landed a role in Divergent – based on the novel by Veronica Roth and the first installment of a trilogy.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 20-year-old actress will play a 16-year-old who leaves her group to join a rival faction and falls in love with a young man.
Woodley also was recently cast in Spider-Man 2. The move is timely as Secret Life was cancelled by ABC Family. Fans of the show will be able to watch the final episodes in March 2013.
Shailene said earlier this year that her heart is in movies and that fame doesn’t go to her head.
“I don’t pay any attention to all of that stuff. I never have. know nothing about the industry, nothing about the ‘business’ and I intend to always be that way. There are more options coming in for me, but that really doesn’t affect me, because I will never do a movie I’m not passionate about. I’d rather be in a two-minute scene in a phenomenal Meryl Streep movie than the lead of an action-hero film.”
