Taking a cue from her friend Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez is laying bare her broken heart through song. The singer just released ‘Rule The World,’ the first tune off her upcoming album, and it sounds like a breakup anthem aimed at ex Justin Bieber.
“Our love was made to rule the world / You came and broke the perfect girl / Forget you ever knew my name,” Selena sings. Ouch.
In an interview in January, the 20-year-old hinted that the breakup fueled her new music. “I think for me it was actually interesting to see that towards the middle of me recording my record, a big turn happened to me and it was incredible to see how I applied that to music because I’ve never done that before and it’s great,” Selena told MTV News.
While she didn’t confirm that any of the songs are about her split with Justin, she did say that the “big turn” affected both her personal and professional life.
“I think the older I’m getting the more I’m just kind of like I’m cool to share my side of the stories as much as I can, so I’m having a lot of fun,” she said.
