Hailee Steinfeld: “I Feel Really Confident Just Being Me”

Hailee Steinfeld graces the August cover of Britain’s Company magazine. In the interview – the 16-year-old talks a lot about fashion.

On meeting Karl Lagerfeld in Paris: “Oh my god, so cool. He was so, so sweet. It was one of those moments where there were a lot of people around him and it was backstage. I was like, ‘I really want to meet him but if it’s not the right time, it’s okay,’ and I was going back and forth with myself; ‘Am I ready [to meet him]? I don’t think I’m ready’. Then it just happened and he was so sweet and so softly spoken and just really cool. It was a great moment.”

On her her Met Ball outfits: “I have to say the dress that I wore to the Met Ball this last year – Donna Karan Atelier – was so much fun. Watching that dress come together was a really cool experience. It’s such a nerve-wracking experience. I have no idea how designers and stylists do it. It’s just crazy. The day of the Met Ball we see the dress for the first time and they’re sewing you into it as you walk out the door.”

On feeling comfortable as a teenager: “For teenagers – and I mainly speak for myself on this one – you’re put into this adult world and it’s scary as anything can happen at any moment, but I’m just thankful my parents have raised me the way they have. I feel really confident just being me. I think a lot of the young actresses out there are the same – they’ve got really good backgrounds and families. We’re just doing what we love and we’re only doing it for that reason.”
