Goodbye long hair! Shailene Woodley cut her locks on Friday (August 16) and posted a couple of photos via Twitter. Earlier in the day she tweeted, “A few more hours & my hair will be worn by someone new. what does your hair situation look like?? #hairforhazel”

The 21-year-old is doing it for her upcoming role in The Fault in Our Stars. She’s also donating more than eight inches to a children’s charity.

According to E! News John Green -  author of The Fault In Our Stars – blogged, “She’s donating her hair to Children with Hair Loss, an organization that provides free wigs to kids who’ve experienced hair loss due to cancer, burns, or other medical conditions. I want to be clear that this was entirely Shai’s idea. (I don’t even think the studio knows about it.) I hope if you’re able, you’ll consider joining Shai in donating. Thanks!”

The movie tells the story of a 16-year-old cancer patient named Hazel who falls in love with a 17-year-old amputee named Augustus Waters. Filming starts in Pittsburgh next month.

The actress wrote on her Tumblr page: “hello brotha’s and sista’s alike! as some of you may know, i will be cutting my hair off this coming weekend in order to help morph my physical body into that of the incredible Hazel Grace Lancaster—-and i couldn’t be more amped. not only do i have the opportunity to externally shift my current establishment of self, but i have the blessed gift of donating my long locks to a wonderful organization who will then create a wig for someone in need. WHAT AN HONOR.”
