Oh, they grow up so fast. One Direction is planning to follow up their mega-hit 2012 album Take Me Home with a new release around the holidays, and Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Liam Payne are moving the band away from their young, pop sound to an edgier groove.
“[It's a] very rock direction,” Liam tells MTV. “We actually spent a lot of time writing this album. We’re very proud of it, so we can’t wait for it to come out.”
“It’s very live sounding, very rock-y,” Liam continued, and described the upcoming release as “quite retro.” “But it’s very different so we are hoping people will kind of adjust to the music with us.”
At a press conference back in May, Liam hinted that the band would be moving towards a different sound.”[We] had the chance to work with a lot of great writers and stuff, but we just made it a bit more edgier,” he said. “Just subtle changes here and there so it kind of grows as we grow.”
