Miley Cyrus may be under fire from Sinead O’Conner (and roughly half of the planet) but she does have one person on her side: Demi Lovato. The singer and X Factor judge – who is seen in this photo with her new neon-blue hair – defended her “best friend” during a recent interview.
“I’ve said this a million times, I know Britney [Spears] and Miley very well. Miley has been one of my best friends growing up and so I’m happy for her,” Demi said. “She’s doing what she wants to do and this is her time to break out and figure out, you know, what she wants to do in her career and her image and everything.”
Demi didn’t comment directly on Miley‘s recent controversial VMA performance but she did give her pal props for doing things her own way. “I’m happy seeing her happy because I love her so much,” she continued. “And, you know, she doesn’t care what people think, nor should she.”
In a previous interview with MTV News, Demi defended Miley‘s party anthem ‘We Can’t Stop’ while at the same time warning the former Hannah Montana star about her hard-living ways. “I think it’s great. I think it’s a good song,” Demi said of her friend’s tune. But the now-sober star added, “She knows how I feel about the whole partying thing.”
“I love her to death,” Demi continued. “And I’m always like, ‘Just be careful.’ And she’s like, ‘Dude, I’m chilling. It’s fine.’ I care for her so much [that] I’m so protective, but she’s good. She’s got a good head on her shoulders.”
